She
is a 76-year-old tribal woman who lives in a hut. People also call her as
Vanamuthassi(Grandmother of the jungle in Malayalam). She lives in the Kallar
forest at Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala, India. She received India’s 4th highest
civilian honor Padma Shri for her breakthrough in practicing
traditional medicine.
She is a
famous poison healer practicing traditional medicine for over 50 years. She is
also a poet and teacher at Kerala Folklore Academy. She also received Kerala
Government’s Naattu Ratna award in 1995. She belongs to the Kaani tribe. She
has attained the education of 3rd forum and knows Sanskrit. She also gives many
lectures on natural medicine at various institutions across the Southern
states. She is one of the last folks who still use the old Ayurvedic procedure
of curing diseases and cure to more than 500 types of snake
bites.
She has
learned a lot of things from her personal experiences and from her
surroundings.
You can do
anything if you really want to do it. Circumstances can't stop you.
