Pollution and global warming are the
biggest issues of today. If every person understands some of his
responsibilities for our environment then this problem can be overcome.
According to me, global warming issue, agriculture, planting trees, etc. should
be subjects in the schools so that our future generation and everybody can be
aware of.
There are many environmentalists in
India, but some of the stories are very inspiring and the most effective and
best story among them is the story of Saalumarada Thimmakka. We should take
inspiration from such people. And the inspiration you get from the story of a
common person can’t be found anywhere because he rises above every problem in
his life and thinks something different.
SAALUMARADA THIMMAKKA:
Karnataka’s Saalumarada Thimmakka, also known as Aalada Marada
Timakka is the oldest living Indian environmentalist. She is a recipient of
many awards other than her latest honor, Padma Shri. When she was unable to
give birth to a child, Timmakka started planting banyan trees.
She planted approximately 387 banyan trees between Hulikal and Kudur in
Magadi Taluk of Ramnagar district at her own expense and then took care of them
as her own children. She has given 66 years of her life for this. She has also
planted nearly 8000 other trees. She has also been involved in other social
activities like constructing a tank to store rainwater for the annual fair held
in her village. Thimmakka’s husband died in 1991. But she continued this
practice even after his death. Her contribution to the environment can’t be
described in words. Saalumarada Timmakka has her name in one of the most
influential and inspiring women in the world. She is an evergreen icon and she
has planted trees but rooted generations.
